Traverse Systems Principle Of Operation Traverse Assembly
Application Areas Selection Of Traverse Unit Operational Guide
Techical Specification & Dimension Optional Features Ordering Information

1) Free Movement Lever:
Type 1 (Refer Fig.14)
Provided to disengage the traverse unit on the shaft. By
operating the free movement lever traverse unit can be
pushed freely along the shaft. Turn the lever by 90 ° in the direction shown for operation. The lever is brought back to normal position for engaging.

Type II (Refer Fig.15)
For traverse units where free movement lever is provided on topside the lever should be turned and held in turned position for disengaging the unit. The lever will return to normal position automatically on release.

Free movement lever is not provided for traverse unit with four Rolling Rings ( Models 4RR15 to 4RR80)

2) Remote Control Of Traverse Pitch.
Traverse pitch can be very finely controlled from a remote point using a small motor mounted on the traverse unit. Available for models with shaft dia above 30 mm. Very useful in applications where traverse unit is not accessible and where very fine variation in pitch is required.

3) Pitch Setting By Set Screws: Infinitely variable
pitch setting by adjusting set screws provided on one end of the traverse unit. Separate pitch setting for each direction is also possible

4) Reversal - Reversal Slow Down
By providing the reversal slow down, Forces exerted on the traverse unit at reversal points are reduced considerably and high speeds without slip is possible.

The reversal slow down is predominantly distance related and changes in pitch and shaft speed do not affect the traverse stroke .

Mode of Operation: Just prior to the reversal point an additional lever fitted with bearing on both ends, makes contact with a V shaped slow down cam, which causes it to swivel. This swivel action serves to reduce the units
pitch such that instantaneous reversal, which follows, is at a significantly reduced traverse speed.

5) Pneumatic: The direction of travel is reversed by the action of a two way air cylinder mounted on the unit using a solenoid valve.

6) Tapered winding by Self-adjusting reversal end limits
This feature is used for Conical and Bi-conical winding on spools and also for continuously tapered coil windings.
Mode of operation: Traverse stroke length is increased continuously to get necessary tapered winding. Motor operated threaded shaft mounting the end limit nuts are moved in or out as per the taper required for the winding.
Motor actuated by simple electronic controls allows wide range of adjustments.

7) Lead Screw Operated End Stops: Remote lead screw adjustment of traverse width operated from one end bracket position. Supplied with a hand wheel control or with a control motor drive.

8) Bellows : Bellow type cover provided over the shaft for protection in a very dusty environment. The Bellows
will prevent dust and particles accumulating on the shaft causing wear out of shaft and bearing.

Grade1 Bellows are made of high tensile fabric coated with polyurethane and Grade 2 Bellows are made of high
quality Rexene.

The shaft length needs to be increased for accommodating the compressed length of bellows.

9) Built In Speed Reduction Gear Box: Traverse assembly can be supplied with built in speed reduction gearbox mounted on drive end bracket for reducing the shaft rpm considerably for applications requiring low Pitch ranges.

10) Traversing The Spool: Rollring traverse is used to traverse the spool. The winder traverses the spool for a smooth and even winding. The spooled material remains perfectly in line, which eliminates lateral stress, pulling and the risk of deformation that is normally associated with winding flat, delicate or brittle materials that are prone to breakage, tearing and twisting. This minimizes material damage, reduces waste and results in less production interruptions. The moving spool winder is designed for spooling fine wires, ribbon, tape, lace and other materials that can crease, fold or snap when traversed on to a spool. We supply moving spools up to 300 kg , full spool weight.

11) Customer Specified Additional Features:
Assembly design options and accessories for any special winding needs can be offered.

MAINTENANCE:

Lubrication
Lubrication of Shaft : Use normal ball bearing grease
or oil SAE 40 . Clean the shaft and spread the grease / oil as thinly as possible.

Lubricate the reversal mechanism, particularly the springs
with high viscosity machine oil SAE 90
Frequency: Weekly. When the operating conditions are severely demanding like extremely dusty conditions, corrosive environments, or at temperature over 70º shorter intervals are recommended.

Loss of Side Thrust
Traverse units are factory set for side thrust as per specifications. If there is any deterioration in thrust after a long period of operation due to wear out this can be compensated by adjusting the thrust screw provided.

A large slotted screw is provided on the unit bottom side
(side of Reversal mechanism) for adjustments. Method:
Slowly tighten the thrust screws to increase the side thrust. Should not be over tightened. The crowned bearings (Rolling Rings) can be replaced.
